What is the sky-nest server?
The sky-nest server and network are a group of “home servers” located at the home of the administrator, Futchan, in Matsudo City, Chiba Japan. In addition to self-operated websites and email services, we also provide free services for a very limited group of users.
Leveraging past experience in server construction and operation at IT companies, we have made efforts to make the servers more professional, more convenient, and more enjoyable to use.
Although it has not gone beyond the level of personal satisfaction, we would be honored if home server enthusiasts who visit this page could find even a little reference useful.
The structure of the sky-nest network

The network that constitutes sky-nest connects one host server and ten guest servers, and by isolating LANs according to usage (VLAN), it achieves both security and ease of use.
Additionally, many of the host servers and various terminals are modified PCs that were used as Windows machines for 15 years in the past. We think that by doing this, we are also contributing, even slightly, to resource conservation such as reducing waste.
Also, with the slogan “Where Birds Work Together,” the host server is named ‘sky,’ and each server uses the name of a bird. By making each server as single-purpose as possible, it is easy to understand and maintain, which is another feature.
Example:
kamome → Web server (a bird that delivers information across the sea)
hato → Mail server (a carrier pigeon that delivers mail), etc.
sky-nest Server Technical Information (For Engineers)

At Sky-nest, networks are separated by purpose to provide a secure and reliable environment.
Computers, smartphones, IoT devices, and servers are placed in dedicated areas, and only the necessary communications are allowed.
[Home Area (VLAN20)]
This area is used by everyday devices such as PCs and smartphones.
• Access websites and send/receive e-mail.
• Use services provided by the Server Area.
[IoT Area (VLAN30)]
This area is dedicated to smart home devices and monitoring equipment.
• Smart appliances and sensors operate here.
• Separated from other areas to reduce the impact of device troubles.
[Home Navigator Area (VLAN40)]
A dedicated area for the Home Navigator system.
• Displays household information and status updates.
• Restricts external communication for safety and security.
[Server Area (VLAN10)]
The workplace of the Sky-nest birds.
Provides services such as websites, e-mail, file sharing, and time synchronization.
[misago(osprey)]
Gateway (Router / Firewall)
The guardian of Sky-nest’s entrance.
